WILMINGTON, Del. – Padua Academy and Ursuline Academy, two all-girls Catholic schools in the city, helped boost Blood Bank of Delmarva collections during their spring semester blood drives held this March.
At Padua Academy, members of the National Honor Society (NHS) organized a successful blood drive on Tuesday, March 11, where they booked a total of 54 appointments and collected 39 units of blood. NHS students traditionally run this annual event, taking on various roles such as recruiting donors, volunteering in the café, and donating blood themselves.
Julia Nowaczyk, an 18-year-old senior at Padua, has already made four blood donations in her young life. Her first donation took place during last year’s Padua blood drive, and she has also visited the BBD’s Christiana Donor Center to give blood. Whether it’s for Girl Scout cookies or simply to support a good cause, Julia has enjoyed her involvement with BBD.
“I want to give back to the community,” Julia said. “I might as well help out.”
The Raiders’ Spring Semester Blood Drive at Ursuline Academy collected an impressive 33 units on March 6. The Ursuline blood drive was organized by the members of Student Council. Their effort made Joanna Arat, Director of Donor Recruitment at the Blood Bank of Delmarva and an alumna of Ursuline, very proud. Arat expressed her gratitude to the Ursuline Student Council and the donors for their contributions in saving lives.
All presenting donors at Ursuline and Padua received the “I paused my game to donate” T-shirt given to high school students during Blood Bank of Delmarva drives.
