STANTON, Del. – The Blood Bank of Delmarva’s second Trunk or Treat on Thursday, October 24 was a smashing success as about 150 people attended the event held in the upper parking lot of the Christiana Donor Center.

It was a perfect, sunny, autumn day that yielded to an early sunset and crisp, cool weather that was perfect for Component Lab Manager Stacy McCardell’s smores station, and mini-bonfire.

And while Blood Bank of Delmarva Executive Director Steve Corse, dressed as Dracula, played spooky music by the speaker system set up by IT by the entrance, Senior Director of Laboratories Kristin Frederick and Reference Lab Manager Chloe Homich anchored the music on the opposite side, with their Taylor Swift-inspired costumes, including the “Tortured Poet” motif.

Among the other costumes we saw were Queen Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen,” The Joker from “Batman,” a family of pumpkins thanks to Donor Scheduler Murray Schulman and the Sanderson sisters from the iconic, Halloween film “Hocus Pocus,” i.e.  Director, Donor Recruitment Joanna Arat, Director, Donor Services Megan Johnson, and Megan’s daughter, Lily.

Donor Scheduler Jenny Kenney, who brought her daughter, Angelina to the event, also got in on the witch theme by dressing up to the nines.

Donors, friends and family remarked that they saw this event advertised on social media or they received BBD’s email communication advertising the event, and they brought their children or grandchildren to our second, annual Trunk or Treat. Staff participation was great as well, and they also invited their families.

Among the families attending were Naomi and John Quick, and all their children, including Caleb, who was the star of the show at the historic, meet-and-greet with donors held September 8. They dressed up as various “Star Wars” characters.

BBD would like to thank all who attended, and especially thank The Original Hot Bagels and Chick-fil-A, two local eateries, who worked with Marketing Coordinator Vaishnav Hari to provide great food at the event.
