QUEENSTOWN, Md. – The seventh annual Amy’s Army Blood Drive is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at Benedict A. Andrew American Legion Post #296.
“Let’s honor Amy’s legacy and help others, just like she would have wanted,” Amy’s Army Facebook page states.
Last year, Amy’s Army’s dedication and resolve continued to impress as the traditional event brought in 99 units on March 3rd, 2024, thereby giving Blood Bank of Delmarva a strong start to meteorological spring after a dreary winter.
The Amy’s Army Blood Drive is held in honor of the late Amy Stoops Rhodes, who was married to Jason Rhodes on October 10, 2015. Thirteen days later she experienced a cerebral hemorrhage due to a ruptured AVM, and died Christmas Eve, 2015. The mission of Amy’s Army mission is to “provide assistance to families who have experienced a sudden personal or family crisis” to continue the legacy of service Amy provided for her community.
As such, part of the tradition of the Amy’s Army Blood Drive is to collect lifesaving blood to give back, and there’s also the bake sale that raises money for a local family. This year, 100% of donations will go to the Funk Family. In addition, attendees are asked to reserve their pork dinners courtesy of Steve Rhodes.
Every year, Amy’s widower, Rhodes, has donated at this drive, as has blood drive coordinator Melissa Dodd.
Amy’s Army has already signed up an outstanding 95 donors, per tradition, and they are just 26 donors short of the goal of making 124 appointments. To sign up and be part of this event, please call 888-8-BLOOD-8 or blook online.
