The In Memory of Chris Skrobot Blood Drive brought in a record 109 units at the blood drive held Sunday, August 30 at Claymont Fire Company in partnership with Blood Bank of Delmarva.
The strong performance of this draw was the best in the three-year history of the blood drive, Blood Bank of Delmarva Account Manager Alyssa Lepore said. The inaugural blood drive in 2024 brought in 85 units, and last year’s event brought in 90 units.
The first two blood drives were held in honor of Christ Skrobot, but this year’s event was held in his memory after he lost his battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) in February, passing away. Chris—a husband and father of two, a New Castle County police officer and volunteer firefighter in Claymont —relied on dozens of blood and platelet transfusions.
The enormous turnout indicated the amazing, passionate support of Chris’ family, friends, colleagues, and the community at large.
“Thank you to everyone who showed up, rolled up their sleeve, broke a sweat, … and made today an EPIC blood drive!” said Patti Dodd, Chris’ mother-in-law and blood drive coordinator. “You are all rock stars and our family is thankful for everyone of you who helped us give back! Chris Skrobot is smiling down on all of us today.”
Patti thanked Claymont Fire Company for hosting the event and Blood Bank of Delmarva staff for running the blood drive “so smoothly.”
