WILMINGTON, DE – Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) and Pike Creek Dental hosted a blood drive in memory of Chris Skrobot, a devoted public servant, on Friday, May 1. Chris, a New Castle County police officer, Claymont Fire Company volunteer firefighter, U.S. Forest Service Wildland firefighter, husband, and father, passed away in February after a two-year battle with cancer at the age of 33.

Chris was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a blood cancer, in May of 2024, and received several blood transfusions as part of his treatment. In honor of his lifetime of public service, Chris’ family, as well as his fellow firefighters and police officers, asked the greater Wilmington community to give the selfless gift of blood donation.

In all, BBD collected 16 units at inaugural blood drive held by Pike Creek Dental, where Chris’ mother-in-law, Patti Dodd, works. In addition, Channel 6ABC Action News covered the event, Blood Bank of Delmarva holds blood drive in honor of New Castle County police officer Chris Skrobot in Wilmington, Delaware – 6abc Philadelphia.

Similar to BBD, Pike Creek Dental felt like it lost a member of the family with Chris’ passing, said blood drive coordinator Penny Rogers.

“We were all very emotionally invested in Chris when he passed away,” Penny said. “This event is what Pike Creek Dental is all about. We’re about not only supporting our coworkers who are our work family, we’re about being out in the community. So, something like this was just a natural extension of what we try to do consistently. We’re incredibly proud to bring something like this into our parking lot and not only remember Chris’ memory, but also help a family that’s perhaps standing in their shoes.”
