WILMINGTON, Del. – The Blood Bank of Delmarva partnership between the Senior Leadership Team and Donor Engagement continued at the Jobs for Delaware Graduates’ 45th Anniversary Celebration held recently at the Hotel du Pont.

State Senator Nicole Poore, who represents the New Castle, Delaware area, invited Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) to attend the gala held in the Hotel du Pont’s Grand Ballroom on Wednesday, October 23. Executive Director, Blood Operations Steven Corse and Communications Specialist Tony Prado were honored to represent BBD at the event held by Senator Nicole Saville Poore, President of Delaware Jobs for Graduates.

Outreach into the community has been ongoing this year in order to bring more donors into BBD, and it was inspirational to hear the wonderful stories of graduates being paired with local jobs in the First State. Corse mentioned that would be worthwhile to look into forming a partnership with Jobs for Delaware Graduates as a possible source of talent for BBD.

It was also great to run into U.S. Senator Tom Carper, who is retiring and donates with BBD; U.S. Representative and incoming United States Senator for Delaware Lisa Blunt Rochester; Delaware Governor, and incoming Wilmington Mayor John Carney, State Treasurer Colleen Davis, another donor with BBD; State Senator and incoming Del. Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay,another blood donor, State Senator, and incoming United States Representative Sarah McBride; State Senators David P. Sokola and Spiros Mantzavinos, former Delaware prize fighter, and boxing champ Dave Tiberi and colleagues such as journalist Allison Taylor Levine, incoming New Castle County Executive Marcus Henry and Yvette Santiago, an administrator with Nemours Children’s Hospital, et cetera.

BBD’s outreach will continue this week when Director, Donor Services Megan Johnson and Director, Donor Recruitment Joanna Arat attend the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce’s Second Annual Little Black Dress Event set for Saturday, November 15.

Lastly, given the current blood emergency issued Monday, November 11, Donor Engagement has reached out to the local, state, and federal elected officials listed above (and more) for help getting the word out, and overtures have been made to the chambers of commerce that BBD has memberships with as well.
